A sustainable soul, when the quality of the environment is a mission

The quality of the Roccafiore environment is considered just one of the many productive factors including: the land, climate, grape variety and cultivation choices.

For this reason, Roccafiore was one of the first wineries in Italy to adopt solar power, with a unit that – in addition to self-production – saves some 90,000 kg of CO₂ per year in emissions.

This sensitivity is also reflected in other choices oriented towards total respect for the environment, such as the use of lighter bottles, the adoption of biofuels for agricultural equipment and a reduction in water consumption through the collection of rainwater in our own special water reserve.

All this integrates perfectly into an agronomic system in which organic and natural cultivation has been adopted as a foundation and the result of producing sustainable wines, today not a simple competitive advantage but a production philosophy entirely in tune with the earth and with the thinking of those who make every single choice.

Biodiversity

A biodiversity reserve in the heart of Umbria

Roccafiore is a veritable reserve of biodiversity in which various cultivations alternate. Ninety hectares are dedicated to vineyards, olive groves, crops, legumes and grains, orchards (hazel, cherry, orange, lemon, peach, apple and pomegranate trees) and the botanical garden with medicinal and aromatic plants. Inside the estate, there is also a small farm of Cinta Senese piglets, strictly bred in the wild and fed with the scraps from the agricultural production. Everything is realised according to the dictates of organic and sustainable agriculture, with the aim of defending the natural wealth of the territory.

Biodiversity

As of 2016, the Company has undertaken significant landscape remodelling works, in the spirit of a naturalistic engineering oriented towards the respect and enhancement of biodiversity. The reforestation project reduces and compensates for the CO₂ emissions connected to the company’s activities, considering that a tree absorbs about 10 kg of CO₂ each year on average. With these operations, the company undertakes to support the disposal of large amounts of carbon dioxide, naturally absorbed by chlorophyll photosynthesis. It is precisely for this reason that planting and protecting forests from deforestation is one of the simplest and most economical methods of combating climate change. The “green” soul of Roccafiore is embodied through a natural approach in order to ensure production that is increasingly in harmony with the environment. The intent is to transfer to the new generations a company and territory that retains its natural and human resources.

Roccafiore è un incubatore di idee dove il vino che si produce è lo specchio del carattere deciso e paziente di coloro che lo producono e che sanno attendere. Quell’attesa ponderata è il segno tangibile della consapevolezza che per fare grandi vini è necessario conoscere, ma anche osare, avendo una chiara visione del risultato che si vuole ottenere. Roccafiore è un microcosmo fatto di persone capaci di dar forma ad un’idea palpabile quanto la passione che le alimenta. Ed in cantina come in vigna si ha piena percezione di questo entusiasmo contagioso.

Produrre vino è un’arte, e come ogni arte ha bisogno di perizia tecnica ma anche di ispirazione. Leonardo e suo figlio Luca questo lo sanno bene e perciò il rapporto con la terra che li ha ispirati non è nostalgico, ma piuttosto rispettoso e orgoglioso della propria identità e dei valori che con soddisfazione si ritrovano nei vini. La filosofia di questa azienda giovane ed ambiziosa si riassume nell’idea che il vino non sia soltanto un prodotto di consumo, quanto piuttosto un complesso distillato di sapori, suggestioni ed esperienze che imprimano al vino il segno di chi l’ha creato. Con lo stesso carattere deciso, distintivo, ricco di sfumature.
